The New Tactical-ish Training Center Open!
If you cannot find an answer to your question, reach out to us at info@tactical-ish.com
This is a complicated answer; BSIS has no Taser permit; however, Axon (the makers of Tasers) has a certification course.
Why doesn't BSIS have a Taser Permit? Think of it this way; any company can make a firearm or a baton. So, BSIS can make a standardized training/certification process. Only Axon can make Tasers, they are proprietary. Only Axon (and certified Axon Trainers) can certify users.
So, while BSIS cannot punish you for not having a certificate, think of the large liability involved in deploying a Taser on a human. You are shooting them with two fishhooks and pumping them with electricity. They are going to fall to the ground and probably crack their head open.
Now fast forward to the court date...Wouldn't you want to tell the courts you used the Taser exactly as you were trained?
We are certified by Axon to train Law Enforcment and civilians in all models of Taser. Email us today! matt@tactical-ish.com
Initial Taser training is a 1-day class involving a lecture, written test, and hands on practice/drills.
When you leave, you will have a working knowledge of how your Taser works, how to carry it, deploy it, and the legalities of use/carry of a Taser.
You must own a Taser to attend this course as the certification is model specific. There is no "universal" Taser certificate.
The class fee is $200
In the class, you are required to shoot a cartridge during the hands-on portion. If you have a spare cartridge, you may use it. If you do not, we can provide a cartridge for additional equipment fee of $35.
You will receive your Taser certificate same day if the class is hosted at our Training Center.
If we come to your business, we will mail the certificates within 48 ours of training completion.
No; there is no background check.
Yes; unfortunately, there is no "universal" Taser certificate, and your training is specific to the model Taser you will be carrying.
If you need help choosing or purchasing a Taser, shoot us an email!
No; there is no requirement by Axon to be Tased during the user certification course.
However, you can volunteer for an "exposure" where you are hit with a Taser cartridge.
Why would I want to be Tased? Deploying a Taser on a suspect/subject is not pretty and will likely lead to a court trial for their assault on you or others. Defense attorneys love to claim you tortured their client by Tasering them as you have no idea the pain it causes. However, if you have been Tased you know exactly how it feels and how quick your body recovers (i.e. it is not torture!).
Exposures cost $35, due to the cost of cartridges.
